Good Poems, Provo, & Pudu

Well since the trip to New York, a lot has happened and not a lot of time has been made to write about it.

In short, this probably won't be that short. At medium, a lot of the last month and a half involved my friend Phillip and his amazing wife Constance (see link to Phillip's blog/memoirs of amazement in the side column to the right). You see, this is what will happen when your good friend flies to India to elope with his girlfriend then subsequently throws a party and moves to Thailand. Somewhere along the way, Phillip gave me a book simply entitled "Good Poems". It's a collection of very accessible material compiled by Garrison Keillor. I've never been much of a poem reader, aside from the formidable works of my friend Alex Brownstein, but as any good friend/confidant/writer might do, Phillip pushed me into another genre of material and thus a new depth of learning. All summer, I've sat and delved frank pleasures out of simple texts. Some nights I would sit on the balcony and read aloud under the porch light to Paul while he smoked cigarettes and watched Mad Men on his Macbook until the mosquitos became too fierce for comfort. It made for good evenings.

Yesterday I got back from a work trip to Utah. Everything you've ever perceived or been told is true. Utah is a beautiful piece of the country with few other provoking reasons to return. I acquired many cheesy souvenirs and food poisoning. I'll just leave it right there where they found it, just like the US should've done in 1896.

As for the wrap up, tomorrow I head out to South America. This will be round two for me heading down south, but now new adventures await in Brazil and Chile. I imagine I will meet a lot of people this go round, as the whole purpose for my attendance is either to interview collegiate students for work/travel positions here in the states during their summer breaks (which takes place in our winter...go figure) or to capture and return with a Pudu (see below).
